Vedantu caters free online classes Amid lockdown

A Bangalore-based startup, Vedantu has been involved in boosting up its services in this lockdown period. This edTech start-up was founded in 2005 by a team of 4 friends VamsiKrishna, Saurabh Saxena, Pulkit Jain and Anand Prakash. With Vamsi Krishna as CEO, Vedantu started its work from a small town in Punjab state.

They started auditing a group of 35-odd kids of some employees and factory workers. When the push has come to shove, 11 out of those 35 kids have been chosen for IITs. That was a great turning point for Vedantu. The team took this amazing journey to the next level by expanding the education space.

Now, Vedantu has grown in establishing live interactive online classes all across India. Even global investors like GGV Capital, a global venture firm, have shown interest in Vedantu and infused up to $24 million. This investment from this GGV capital is a part of that firm’s Series C extension round.

This capital infusion made in August 2019 was led by WestBridge and Tiger Global. Apart from this several other investors like Omidyar India, TAL education, LGT group, CEO, and Prince Maximilian of Liechtenstein have also participated in it.

Vedantu showed a great response regarding lockdown due to COVID-19. The schools have been shut down and there is a great interruption for education all along the world. But, several start-ups like Toppr, BYJU’s, Unacademy, Testbook and many others came forward offering free online courses and seasonal mentoring. Conversely, Vedantu has upgraded its platform and began to set up the virtual classrooms in-order to help students of schools and colleges.

As a success, a 10x growth rate has been registered since the outbreak of Coronavirus. Both Unacademy and Vedantu stood-up in temporarily providing their educational institutes and live-streaming platforms for free.

Apart from closely auditing the impact of COVID-19, Vedantu came forward supporting students of classes I to XII by providing them their platforms at free of cost. The learning needs of students and colleges have so far been noticed and their staff is put into rapid training for extending greater services. It also includes subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Science, and Social Studies.

So far, Vedantu has been holding out to have over 25 million users each month and among them around 150,000 students study live on the interactive online learning platforms. They offer individual and group classes both in real-time and using online platforms for over 1000+ cities and more than 40 countries.

This start-up has raised a total of $85 million hitherto. It was categorized into a Live tutoring firm and recognized as a leader in K12 (Kindergarten to Class 12). As of now, Vedantu has 6 million+ monthly learners, all active on its platform. It has over 500 highly qualified teaching staff as a part of the next generation platform initiated by Vedantu called WAVE.
